Fishing report for Table Rock Lake

June 3, 2007

Hey fishing fans. The " ROCK " is heating up!

MID-LAKE/ DAM AREA

The dam area is probably the toughest part of the lake right now. We are catching some really nice spots and still seeing a few smallmouths, before they disappear for the summer. We are not catching a lot of fish, but the ones we are catching are some nice post-spawners. Average trip this week has been 5 to 7 lbs keepers, with an occasional 4 lbs spot. Carolina rigging seems to be the deal! Fish 20 to 30 feet of water. There doesn't seem to be a specific time of day that they're biting. The thermocline is at 24 feet, so try to stay around that depth. We are also starting to catch some fish on a drop shot and spoon in 25 to 30 feet of water - this bite seems to be better when the sun is out good and bright. Try brush piles, underwater and main lake points. Best baits for dragging are Zoom centipedes, or French fries, and also finesse worms in green, pumpkin, watermelon, candy, and avocado. Best baits for drop-shoting have been a 4 to 5 inch finesse worm in the same colors.

WHITE RIVER/ MOUTH TO SHELL KNOB

This part of the lake is probably the most consistent right now. There is still some great top-water action in the morning, and if you’re lucky and get clouds all day you can enjoy an all-day bite! Also, I’ve been dragging a Carolina rig in this area and catching a lot of fish, staying in about 20 to 30 feet on main lake points. Average trip here right now is 20 to 30 fish per trip and 10 to 12 being keepers. I’ve been throw the top-water in morning, on bluff ends or secondaries with trees - this is also one really good way to catch a big post-spawn largemouth. We are also seeing some fish really schooling up in the deep trees, and you can catch them on either a spoon or a drop-shot rig in about 25 to 30 feet of water.

JAMES RIVER/ Aunts Creek to Flat Creek

Lots of schooling fish in this area! You get on the right point in the morning, and you can load the boat pretty quickly with a top-water! Fishing in the James is pretty consistent with the rest of the lake, dragging a Jewel football jig or a Carolina rig is the way to go. The fish are about 25 to 30 feet deep around Aunts Creek and 17 to 20 feet around Capefair using the same baits. On overcast days, enjoy catching fish on a crankbait where shad are present. Best baits on top are spooks, redfins, chugbugs and poppers. Carolina rig a Zoom baby brush hog in green, pumpkin, or cotton candy. Crankbaits: Rapala DT 16's, Bomber Fat Free Shads, or Norman Deep Little N's in shad colors.

Good Luck and Great Fishing!
